Insurance for international students on the M1 Visa
(vocational or technical training)

The M1 visa is issued to international students of vocational and technical schools. The M1 visa is suitable for foreign students coming to the US to attend full vocational training. M1 students are typically eligible for a relatively short amount of Optional Practical Training i.e. one month for every four months of study.
Even if the US consulate does not make it mandatory to buy health insurance (as in the case of the J1 visa), it is still prudent for international students on the M1 visa to have good health insurance. On our website, we offer affordable student insurance plans which provide adequate coverage for the M1 visa holder.

Requirements

The M1 visa applicant must be enrolled full-time in a vocational or non-academic education program at an approved institution in the US. The full-time study is defined as a minimum of 18 hours of study per week. Applicants are required to show adequate funds to support themselves for the duration of their course and proof that they intend to return to their home country on completion of their vocational training. M1 visa applicants may also be required to satisfy certain health and character requirements.
